A hydrodynamic cavitation reactor is a device used for generating cavitation, a phenomenon where rapid changes in fluid pressure create small vapor-filled cavities (bubbles) within the fluid. These cavities implode violently, generating localized high temperatures and pressures. This process can be harnessed for various applications including mixing, emulsification, and chemical reactions.

In a hydrodynamic cavitation reactor, cavitation is typically induced by forcing a fluid (liquid) through a constriction or over an obstacle at high velocities. This creates areas of low pressure, where cavitation bubbles form. When these bubbles collapse, they release energy which can be utilized for various purposes.

Applications of hydrodynamic cavitation reactors include wastewater treatment, chemical processing, food processing, and biodiesel production, among others. They offer advantages such as energy efficiency, scalability, and environmental friendliness compared to traditional methods for these processes.
